And a few sketches

Hello! Welcome to my Substack and to the beginning of my serialized graphic novel. Working title is The Night Country, a nod to Loren Eiseley’s book by the same name. I won’t say a lot about the story at this point. The writing has taken me many months, and it should be around 250 pages when finished. I hope to publish it in book form at that point. There will certainly be many edits later on. The current font for the lettering is kind of provisional, and I know there will be panels and even whole pages I’ll want to redo. But this seems like a good way to put it in front of people and give the story a little engagement with the world as I go.

Like most of what I’m drawing lately, it’s done in Procreate.

My son’s pumpkin carving offering this year.

Astrid Lindgren. Her birthday is November 14th. I loved her books as a kid, and I realized the other day my son has somehow made it to the age of 11 without reading any of them. Might need to rectify that. I like to do portraits of my favorite authors and artists when I’m having trouble thinking of other things to draw. So you might see a lot of these as a subscriber.

My wife dressed in a big floppy walrus onesie for Halloween this year, and I persuaded her to pose for a portrait. Needless to say she’s a very good sport. :)
