Sketch of Yoshihiro Tatsumi on his birthday. One of my favorite cartoonists. I first read him in the 3 volume collection edited by Adrian Tomine in 2005. I had thought that "literary" comics, with this kind of emotional and thematic depth and range, were a pretty recent thing, but Tatsumi had gotten there back in the 50s and 60s. Not sure there's been anything as good since.
